Bob Woodruff Foundation DC Spring Reception

For the 5th consecutive year, the Board of Trade alongside, the Bob Woodruff Foundation hosted the top military brass, Veterans, Elected Officials and other VIPs in support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation.  This year's special guests included Robert McDonald, 8th US Secretary of Veteran Affairs and actor, Adam Driver along with fellow actors from Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF).



 

7th Annual Welcome Back Washington Nationals Team Luncheon

On Wednesday, April 13th, the Board of Trade and our business community welcomes back the Nationals from spring training for a special luncheon. With the entire team, coaching staff and ownership in attendance, the Board of Trade was able to make a generous contribution to the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation on behalf of the business community. 


 

 

METRORAIL AT 40: Restoring a World Class System

At a summit on the future of Metrorail, 100 government, business, and civic leaders discussed how they can work together to help the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) restore the transit system’s “world-class” reputation.

The March 30 summit, Metrorail at 40: Restoring a World-Class System, sponsored by the Greater Washington Board of Trade (BOT) and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and took place during the week of the 40th anniversary of Metrorail’s opening. Participants discussed a variety of topics, including funding, safety, development around Metro stations, and governance. 
 

97th Annual Mid-Winter Dinner

On Wednesday, March 16th, the Board of Trade hosted our 97th Annual Mid-Winter Dinner at the Smithsonian Institution's Arts and Industries Building. Over 400 business leaders were the first to attend an event in the city's historic venue after being closed over 12 years. This annual event continues its tradition of premier networking with those who get business done in Greater Washington.

Business Community Convene for a Briefing on the Active Shooter Threat

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), American Red Cross, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade brought together top federal officials, the elected mayors and county executives from around metropolitan Washington, and our nationally-recognized police chiefs and special operations experts for a “Vigilance in the National Capital Region and the Active Shooter Threat” program. The special briefing and guidance program was designed to immediately convene the business community. Among the confirmed presenters, FBI and law enforcement experts, will provide guidance on appropriate alerts, situational awareness and preparation recommendations.  

Special Briefing on Papal Visit to Washington: Important Information

The Greater Washington Board of Trade recently hosted a special briefing on the Pope's September 2015 visit to Washington. The event took place at the St. Regis Hotel, Washington D.C. and featured presentations from a number of important stakeholders. An overview of the papal visit was conducted, there was a review of major site activities, traffic restrictions were x-rayed, and visitor estimates analyzed, among other issues. The papal briefing was carried out with the approval and support of the U.S. Secret Service, and the link above provides additional details that will help inform and prepare our businesses for what to expect.

Regional Policy Forum on Education

Kicking off the new school year, the Board of Trade hosted its inaugural Regional Policy Forum on Education on Wednesday, September 2nd, welcoming some of the region’s top officials to address the issues and opportunities in our public school system. Panel featured: Chancellor Kaya Henderson, DC Public Schools; Superintendent Karen Garza, Fairfax County Public Schools; CEO Dr. Kevin Maxwell, Prince George's County Public Schools and Superintendent Dr. Patrick K. Murphy, Arlington Public Schools.

Wage Theft Compliance - A Special Conference Call

On Tuesday, May 19th, Michael Watts, Associate Director Office of Wage-Hour, and Daniel King, Auditor Office of Wage-Hour, joined the Board of Trade for a special conference call to help the business community understand the business commitments for meeting compliance of the Wage Theft Prevention Amendment Act of 2014. On Tuesday, April 7th, Fareed Zakaria, the host of CNN's flagship international affairs program -- Fareed Zakaria GPS -- spoke to over 150 business leaders about his new book, In Defense of a Liberal Education.  In his new book, Fareed turns his attention to the virtues of a liberal arts education -- how to write clearly, how to express oneself convincingly, and how to think analytically. Fareed as he argues for a renewed commitment to the world's most valuable educational tradition.

On Wednesday, March 18th, the Board of Trade hosted our 96th Annual Mid-Winter Dinner at 1812 North Moore in Arlington. Over 300 business leaders attended the dinner at the tallest and newest building in the region, with unparalleled views of the Greater Washington Region. This annual event continues its tradition of premier networking with those who get business done in Greater Washington.

 


Regional Policy Forum on Transportation
