Board of Trade Priorities

Annually, the Board of Trade determines the priorities to guide the organization’s activity for the upcoming year. Here are the 2008 Top Deliverables .

Grow Members’ Business

  • Help members do business better by offering new, professional development programs, and “insider” seminars on key regional issues.
  • Enhance the offering of high quality workforce development opportunities, provide a new online job bank to help members find qualified employees, and re-introduce a print membership directory.
  • Through the Greater Washington Initiative, expand research efforts to better articulate our region’s economic strengths and to attract new business investment.

Improve Regional Mobility

  • Secure $3 billion in long-term dedicated funding for Metro’s maintenance and capacity expansion needs through the U.S. Congress and at the Maryland and Virginia General Assemblies.
  • Defend the Intercounty Connector project against lawsuits and support its expedited construction.
  • Secure $400 million annually in new dedicated transportation funding for new roads, bridges, transit, and ongoing maintenance in Virginia.
  • Support funding and management of the rail to Tysons and Dulles project. Learn More>>
  • Support regional coordination of information to reduce roadway congestion.

Promote Effective Government

  • Continue developing close working relationships with elected leadership in Congress, the District of Columbia and Maryland.
  • Advocate, regional-wide, for responsible fiscal and legislative policies that do not unfairly burden businesses.

Enhance Regional Livability and Community

  • Lead regional emergency preparedness efforts by advocating Greater Washington’s needs with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • Collaborate with other regional organizations in developing and implementing a long-term, broad-based and inclusive vision for quality regional growth.
