Encourage Your Employees to Vote in DC and MD Primaries!

The primary elections, scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 12, are critical to this region since numerous elected leaders in key positions chose not to seek reelection. Please encourage your employees to vote for the candidate of their choice in both the Washington, DC and Maryland Democratic primaries.

Board of Trade DC PAC Endorsements

Mayor: Linda Cropp, for her effective career in public service, her approach to the issues of education, affordable housing and economic development, and her track record of being open and collaborative with members of the business, civic and nonprofit communities.

City Council: The following endorsements were made jointly with the DC Chamber of Commerce’s PAC:

Council Chairman: Vincent Gray , for his honest leadership style during his time on the DC Council, his knowledge of business and community issues, and his prior government experience.

At-Large Councilmember: Scott Bolden, for his commitment to keeping the economy vibrant, and his ability to bring a fresh perspective to the Council on business issues.

At-Large Councilmember: David Catania

Ward 1: No endorsement

Ward 3: Eric Goulet

Ward 5: Harry Thomas, Jr .

Ward 6: Curtis Etherly, Jr.

 

Board of Trade Maryland PAC Endorsements

Montgomery County Executive: Steve Silverman, for his track record of support for the Purple Line and other transportation investments, along with sensible growth strategies, such as the revitalization of Silver Spring and transit-oriented development

Prince George ’s County Executive: Jack B. Johnson in his re-election bid, for his support of the county’s continued economic progress, his balanced approach to growth and planning, and his support of public education.

Attorney General: Doug Gansler, for his 8-year record of success as Montgomery County State’s Attorney, his knowledge of the Washington business community and its issues, and his desire to bring a fresh approach to the Attorney General’s office.

Montgomery County Council: Nancy Floreen (at large), George Leventhal (at large), Mike Subin (at large), Mike Knapp (Dist. 2), Howie Denis (Dist. 1) Bob Dorsey (Dist. 3)

Prince George ’s County Council: Flo Hendershot (Dist. 3) and Tony Knotts (Dist. 8)

Maryland State Senate: Carol Petzold (Dist. 19) and Ida Ruben (Dist. 20) are in running in key senate races. Both have a track record of supporting key transportation projects, such as the ICC. Other Senate endorsements include: Jennie Forehand (Dist. 17), Rich Madaleno (Dist. 18), Doug Peters (Dist. 23), Ulysses Currie (Dist. 25), Anthony Muse (Dist. 26), Thomas V. Maryland House of Delegates: Bill Bronrott (Dist. 16), Kumar Barve (Dist. 17), Luiz Simons (Dist. 17), Jim Gilchrest (Dist. 17), Jane Lawton (Dist. 18), Ben Kramer (Dist. 19), Sheila Hixson (Dist. 20), Carolyn Howard (Dist. 24)

 

Note: These endorsements were made by the Board of Trade’s Maryland and DC Political Action Committees (PACs). Both PACs endorsed candidates who will promote the Board of Trade’s agenda, which is pro-business and non-partisan. From transportation and emergency preparedness to education and health care, the Board of Trade works on a range of issues affecting the region. Positions on issues are developed with the premise that sound, reasonable policies will benefit the economy and the community in which we live, work and play. Further endorsements will be considered in competitive general election races.
