Virginia House Minority Leader Meets
with Board of Trade Members
On May 17, the new Virginia House Minority Leader, Ward Armstrong (D-Martinsville), made his first trip to Northern Virginia since assuming his new role leading Virginia’s Democrats. Responding to an invitation to meet with Board of Trade members, Delegate Armstrong engaged in a lively discussion with business leaders from throughout Northern Virginia about issues important to the business community. Armstrong spoke passionately about the need to invest in Virginia’s infrastructure, especially transportation and higher education, without pitting those critical needs against each other.
He also underscored his understanding of Northern Virginia as the economic engine supporting the rest of the Commonwealth. He stressed the need for Northern Virginia and Southwest and Southside Virginia, which is suffering from a severe loss of jobs and the resulting economic slump, to work together to address issues arising from our region’s exploding growth and by creating more opportunities for the southern part of the state.
Armstrong closed by issuing an invitation to the Board of Trade to meet with him and his caucus prior to the next legislative session to share ideas about promoting business’ interests and ensuring the economic health necessary to sustain all of Virginia.
