Staff Changes.
As efforts to enhance the focus of the Greater Washington Board of Trade move forward, emphasis is being placed on advocacy, research and programs to better serve the membership. In doing so, the allocation of staff resources is being changed to free up funds for member service. This requires several staff positions to be changed and, as a result, a few employees are leaving the Board of Trade. These positions will be realigned and additional resources will be spread across the organization over the coming months.
Outgoing and New Regional Leaders Gather.
At a dinner hosted by the Board of Trade this week, outgoing and newly elected leaders had a wide-ranging conversation on regional issues – and the need for continued collaboration.
Anacostia Waterfront Plans Will Generate $10 Billion in Private Investment.
At a meeting yesterday, Adrian Washington, president and CEO of the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation (AWC), briefed the Board of Trade’s Regional Development Task Force on plans to revitalize the Anacostia Waterfront, an unprecedented project that will span the next 20 years. The AWC is coordinating a public investment strategy that is facilitating construction of more than 3 million square feet of new office space, 6,500 units of housing, 32 acres of public parkland, and a 20-mile river-walk along both sides of the river. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow to Keynote Annual Meeting on Dec. 7.
This year’s luncheon features White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, who will discuss the administration’s priorities for 2007 and relationships required to successfully work with the Democratic-controlled Congress. Snow will also take some questions from the audience. The program, at the Hilton Washington, offers a chance to network with 650+ colleagues, elected officials, and local media. Register >>
Top Priority Update: Metro Funding Bill Pending in U.S. Senate.
Board of Trade representatives met earlier this month with Sen. John Warner (R-VA), and Reps. Tom Davis (R-VA) and Jim Moran (D-VA) in continuing efforts to secure $1.5 billion in critically needed, dedicated funds for Metro. Currently, the Metro funding bill is pending action in the U.S. Senate. Stay tuned! Questions?
Board of Trade Members Join Comptroller-Elect’s Transition Team.
Peter Franchot, Maryland’s next comptroller, named seven Board of Trade members to his transition team, including Chair-elect Barbara Krumsiek, president and CEO of The Calvert Group. The team will meet over the next 4 to 6 weeks to make recommendations to Franchot on organizational structure, personnel and policy matters. More>

Congrats to Washington Business Hall of Fame Inductees.
Last night, at an annual dinner sponsored by Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area, the Board of Trade and Washingtonian magazine, five area leaders were inducted into the Washington Business Hall of Fame. Kudos to John “Chip” Akridge III, Akridge Company; Jeong Kim, Lucent Technologies; B. Francis Saul, Chevy Chase Bank FSB; Alexandra Armstrong, Armstrong, Fleming and Moore Inc; and Kenneth Sparks, Ken Sparks Associates LLC (formerly Federal City Council).
