Post-Election Update: Board of Trade Connects with Kaine Transition Team, Celebrates VA Legislators’ Victories. The Board of Trade has extended congratulations to Governor-Elect Tim Kaine, and reached out to his transition team with a detailed legislative agenda released last month. Also, the Board’s advocacy team congratulated successful candidates for Virginia’s State Assembly who were supported by the Board of Trade’s Virginia Political Action Committee. Andrew Scott Joins Staff as Government Relations Director for MD. With 12+ years of experience in journalism and state and local government affairs in Maryland, Andrew J. Big Kudos to Small Business Network Award Winners. At last week’s 2nd Annual Small Business Network Dinner, keynoted by Sheila Johnson-Newman, owner of the Washington Mystics and Salamander Resort & Spa, the Board of Trade presented awards to honor the significant contribution of small businesses to our region’s economy. Regional Development Task Force Hits the Road. To give members a first-hand look at key projects in DC, the Board of Trade’s Regional Development Task Force organized a bus tour on Nov. 4, guided by Ellen McCarthy, Director of DC’s Office of Planning. Sponsored by Foley & Lardner as part of the Board’s Executive Briefing series, the tour drew nearly 40 members. Bus stops included the old GWU Hospital site, old DC Convention Center site, Sursum Corda housing project, and the Anacostia Waterfront / Stadium site. More info on RDTF

Local “Smart Growth” Projects Recognized. A jury formed by the Washington Smart Growth Alliance (SGA) recently recognized three new development proposals as outstanding examples of smart growth: a mixed-use development east of the Anacostia River in DC; a town center in eastern Loudoun County; and a redevelopment near the Courthouse Metro in Arlington. The SGA is a coalition of the Board of Trade, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Coalition for Smarter Growth, Metro Washington Builders’ Council and ULI Washington. Read more
