Walking Shoes Required: Join us for Wellness Campaign Kick Off on Sept. 27. Ninety-two member firms, representing more than 60,000 employees across the region, have signed up for Wellness Works, the Board of Trade’s fitness campaign. To kick off the six-week program, the Board of Trade will host a lunchtime walk on Sept. 27, gathering in Farragut Square Park at 11:45 a.m. Following the walk, a healthy lunch in the park will be served. For Suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia employees: satellite walks are scheduled at this same time. To RSVP and for details, contact wellnessworks@bot.org. Lessons Learned From Katrina. The Board of Trade is redoubling efforts, following Hurricane Katrina, to assure that responses to any type of major emergency in Greater Washington are clearly coordinated on a regional basis. Since September 11, progress has been made on emergency preparedness and the Board of Trade is supporting a citizen education campaign. Learn how to prepare at www.makeaplan.org.

Push for Metro Funding Continues; Summit Scheduled October 3.  Area business leaders continue to push for $2.4 billion in dedicated, long-term funding to enable Metro to purchase new trains and busses and to make critical capital improvements. Over the past few months, the Board of Trade has met with local, state and federal officials, as well as with business and environmental groups. On Oct. 3, a Metro Funding Summit, co-sponsored by the Board and open to members, will bring together political leaders to help chart a course for securing the required funding. More info
