Local Elections Bring Host of New Leaders to Key Positions.

Results of last week’s DC and MD Democratic primaries will bring major change to our local political scene. Immediately following the elections, the Board of Trade congratulated all winners and pledged to work collaboratively to solve critical issues facing the District and the region. Two Urgent Priorities: Federal Funds for Metro; Transportation Funding in VA.

There’s still time to write your U.S. Senator to advance legislation that would provide $1.5 billion in federal funding for Metro. And the Board of Trade’s bus trip to Richmond on Sept. 26 offers the chance to network with members and be present for a key legislative session on transportation funding, including dedicated money for Metro. Members are also urged to write members of VA’s House Finance Committee. Questions?

Connecting our Capitals: Region Bids on Nonstop Service to Beijing.

To assist United Airlines and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority in a competitive bid to provide nonstop airline service between Washington Dulles and Beijing, a "Capital to Capital” coalition was recently formed, supported by the Board of Trade and the Greater Washington Initiative. A decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation is expected by year’s end. How you can help

Never Stop Learning: Executive Networks Welcomes Rising Execs.

The 2006 Class of Executive Networks, that begins Sept. 26 and includes six sessions over 10 weeks, is a senior-level Board of Trade program that brings rising execs together with current business and civic leaders. Help a Small Business Receive Big Recognition.

To recognize the contributions of small businesses to the area’s economy, all Board of Trade members are invited to nominate a member firm for one of three small business awards, to be presented at the 3rd Annual Small Business Network Dinner on Nov. 8.
