For Virginia Voters: Board of Trade PAC Announces Endorsements for Delegates.
Last week, after in-depth interviews with the candidates, the Board's Virginia Political Action Committee (PAC) announced their endorsements of seven Northern Virginia candidates in November races for the state's House of Delegates. The endorsements are based on the candidates' support of Board of Trade priorities, with particular emphasis on health care system innovations and funding for transportation and higher education. In conjunction with National Preparedness Month (September), and as part of a federally funded campaign to help area residents become prepared, the Board of Trade is urging member firms to send a representative to a FREE emergency preparedness training program. The sessions provide practical information to help employees develop personal and family emergency plans. Fall Potomac Conference Meeting will Focus on Regional Development.
Over the next 30 years, the region is expected to gain two million more residents. Where will these people live? What industries will employ them? What new infrastructure will be needed? In November, the Board of Trade's Potomac Conference will invite local public, private and non-profit leaders to "A Conversation about our Region's Future." More info>>
Help a Small Business Receive Big Recognition.
To recognize the contributions of small businesses to the area's economy, all Board of Trade members are invited to nominate a member firm for one of four small business awards, to be presented at the 2nd Annual Small Business Network Dinner on Nov. 9. Awards include: Guiding Small Business Growth, Most Engaged Small Business, Most Expanded Company and Visioning Award. Nominations are due Oct. 3.

Maryland Transportation Secretary to Meet Members at TEC Meeting.
In the transportation arena, there's much at stake in Maryland this year. The state's top transportation executive, MD Transportation Secretary Robert Flanagan, will discuss issues at the Board of Trade's Transportation and Environment Committee (TEC) meeting on Sept. 9 at 10am. More info>>
