New Census Data Confirms Region is Most Highly Educated. According to an analysis of the new U.S. Census data by the Greater Washington Initiative, the region’s population with advance degrees rose from 18% to 21% from 2000 to 2005,and those with Bachelor’s degrees or higher rose from 42% to 45%. Among regions with at least one million residents, Greater Washington is the nation’s most educated metro area. Read press release

DC PAC Endorses Candidates in Council Races, Promotes Cropp for Mayor. In advance of the Sept. 12 Democratic primary, the Board of Trade’s DC PAC endorsed City Council candidates: Eric Goulet in Ward 3; Harry Thomas, Jr. in Ward 5 and Curtis Etherly in Ward 6. The endorsements were made jointly with the DC Chamber of Commerce’s PAC. Also, the two groups will run Metro bus ads promoting Linda Cropp for Mayor, and the Board of Trade, working with several business organizations, will run print ads highlighting Mrs. Cropp’s record of achievement. MD PAC Endorses Silverman and Johnson in County Races, Gansler for Attorney General. With the Democratic primary also scheduled in MD on Sept. 12, the Board of Trade’s Maryland PAC endorsed Steve Silverman for Montgomery County Executive, Jack B. Johnson in his re-election bid for Prince George’s County Executive, and Doug Gansler for Attorney General. Read more Questions?
Tracking Transportation Funding: VA Business Leaders Urged to Get Involved. At a meeting yesterday, co-hosted by the Board of Trade, the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern VA Transportation Alliance, state transportation experts urged business execs to work with their legislators to obtain passage of a transportation funding package for Virginia this fall. The Board of Trade supports a funding package that includes a dedicated revenue source for Metro, and provides critical funds for major transportation projects in Northern Virginia. Questions?
