Green Index to Gauge Region’s Environmental Strengths and Challenges. At the 2007 Potomac Conference in October, entitled “Green as a Competitive Advantage”, a first-ever Greater Washington Green Index will be unveiled to business, elected and civic leaders. Developed by the Greater Washington Initiative - in conjunction with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and environmental experts - the Index will compare our region to other metro areas on measures such as green development, energy use, water and air quality. Potomac Conference participants will use the Index to help develop a regional leadership agenda to spur business growth and improve our quality of life. More on the 2007 Potomac Conference. Member Volunteers to “Buff and Scrub” DC School Next Week. As part of DC Mayor Adrian Fenty’s effort to clean up city schools over the summer, the Board of Trade has “adopted” Francis Junior High School, in the West End neighborhood. With the help of 200 volunteers from 21 firms in partnership with Vornado Charles E. Smith, Board of Trade members will scrub and paint classrooms, the library and cafeteria so that students will experience a cleaner, brighter environment when they return later this month. We could still use volunteers on Mon., Aug. 6 or Sat., Aug. 11. Please email Charlotte Jamison ASAP if you’d like to participate in this hands-on service project.
