Greetings. Monday was Day 1 and I am very pleased to have joined the Board of Trade as President and CEO. Since I have met many of you at a variety of meetings and receptions, I wanted to thank you for the warm welcome to this organization. The staff is energized and I am excited to join such a dynamic team. I look forward to working with each of you as we grow this regional organization through collaboration, partnerships, advocacy, research and more. DC PAC Endorses Linda Cropp for Mayor. On Monday, the Board of Trade’s DC Political Action Committee voted to endorse DC Council Chairman Linda W. Cropp for Mayor of the District of Columbia, citing her effective career in public service and her approach to the issues of education, affordable housing and economic development. Read more
Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine Meets with Board of Trade Leadership. At a recent private meeting, Chair Sam Schreiber (Wachovia), Chair-Elect Barbara Krumsiek (The Calvert Group) and Jim Dinegar discussed numerous issues with VA Governor Tim Kaine, including the critical need to secure long-term, dedicated transportation funding this year. Working collaboratively with other stakeholders, the Board of Trade is taking an active role to develop solutions with state legislators, in preparation for another special legislative session in Richmond expected this fall. Greater Washington’s “Creative Workforce” is Focus of New GWI Study. Following last month’s release of the popular 2006 Regional Report, the Greater Washington Initiative is undertaking a major study of the area’s “creative workforce.” Through occupational analysis and a survey, the study will answer questions including: How many people are employed in the region’s creative sector? “Doing Business with DOD” is Focus of U.K. Economic Development Program. For several jam-packed days next week, leaders from the Board of Trade and its economic development arm, the Greater Washington Initiative, will host educational programs at the Farnborough International Air Show in the United Kingdom. The event, expected to attract 300,000+ professionals, provides Board of Trade Chair Sam Schreiber (Wachovia), President and CEO Jim Dinegar, GWI Executive Director Tim Priest, and Director April DuBois the chance to meet senior-level corporate executives from the expanding defense and aerospace sectors who seek to do more business in Greater Washington. ISO New Senior Execs. Learn more about your region while establishing valuable, new professional relationships. The 2006 Executive Networks class, a senior-level Board of Trade program that engages the area’s new and rising execs, is now accepting applications. Six small-group sessions, over a three-month period, will focus on critical issues facing Greater Washington. First class is Sept. 26. Download application
Golf Tourney Draws Record Crowd. The June 26 Board of Trade Golf Tournament was a huge success, thanks to more than 200 die-hard golfers who spent a wet day on the Jones and Norman courses at The Golf Club at Lansdowne. Participants were joined by 60+ sponsors and contributors, making this one of our largest tournaments ever.
