A Win on DC “Way to Work” Bill; Weighing in on DC Gun Safety Laws. Responding to Board of Trade and DC Chamber of Commerce concerns with Williams Administration and DC Council legislation that would place new burdens on DC employers—without solving the problem of training the long-term unemployed for jobs—the DC Council agreed to hold off and asked the business community to come up with a workable plan. Board of Trade-Endorsed Candidates Win Virginia Primary. In the recent Virginia primary elections, victory came to three of the four Republican incumbents who supported Virginia’s important fiscal reform last year and were endorsed by the Board’s Virginia PAC: Joe May (Loudoun), Harry Parrish (Manassas) and Bobby Orrock (Spotsylvania). Only Gary Reese ( Fairfax) was defeated. Read more
Board of Trade Welcomes New Government Relations Director to Advocacy Team. In July, Nancy L. Reed will join the Board of Trade staff as a director of government relations to manage Northern Virginia state and local activities. A veteran government relations professional and attorney, Reed has served in the Fairfax County Chamber and the US Chamber of Commerce. Read press release
