This week, even before he is officially “on board,” members in Virginia, Maryland and DC had the chance to chat informally with new Board of Trade President and CEO, Jim Dinegar, who begins work on July 10. At DC Mayoral Forum, Candidates Ask for Business Community Support. At a June 15 Board of Trade forum, the five announced candidates for DC Mayor described their qualifications and answered questions on issues ranging from homeland security to fiscal responsibility. Later this summer, the Board’s DC PAC will interview candidates and consider endorsement. Duncan, O’Malley Offer Contrasting Views at MD Gubernatorial Forum. Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan and Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley outlined their positions at the Board of Trade’s MD Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates’ Forum on June 14, and responded to members’ questions on transportation, healthcare, taxes and development. Mr. Duncan questioned Mayor O’Malley’s commitment to the ICC; the Mayor said he supported the project but had concerns about its reliance on tolls. VA Legislature Finally Agrees to Budget, Sans New Transportation Funds. The longest legislative session in state history ended this week, with an agreement on a 2006-2008 budget, avoiding a possible shut-down of state government on July 1. Unfortunately, only current levels of funding are maintained for transportation, despite months of debate over how to meet the needs of the Commonwealth. This includes failure to agree upon a dedicated revenue source for Metro. Read more Questions?


GWI Update: Regional Report Released, New Ads Launched. All member reps should have a copy of the Greater Washington Initiative’s 2006 Regional Report that received extensively local and national media coverage. An online version of the Report is at www.greaterwashington.org.
