Board of Trade Celebrates “Post 200” with Area CEOs. At a first-ever luncheon program on June 13, the Board of Trade partnered with The Washington Post to honor the region’s top businesses profiled in the Post 200. The event drew over 50 CEOs as well as Washington Post editors and reporters. Columnist Steve Pearlstein and Board of Trade Chair Barbara Krumsiek (Calvert), led a panel discussion on major issues facing businesses in the region. Board of Trade Supports Rail to Dulles. On Monday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the local funding share for the Rail to Dulles project, signaling agreement to the above-ground option supported by other stakeholders. Prior to the vote, the Board of Trade urged the Fairfax Supervisors to support this option to avoid jeopardizing $900 million in federal funds. New Publication Showcases Greater Washington’s Aerospace & Defense Assets. The latest Greater Washington Initiative publication, Greater Washington Aerospace & Defense Industry Overview, released yesterday at the Paris Air Show, features a map with major aerospace and defense companies, military installations, and federal agencies engaged in aerospace and defense work. With more than 800 companies and 33 R&D local facilities conducting work in this industry, the region now ranks first per capita in the number of workers in aerospace-related occupations. DC Legislative Update: Supporting Smarter Approach to Employing Ex-Offenders. The Board of Trade submitted a letter to Councilmember Carol Schwartz highlighting burdensome and risky consequences of a proposal in the DC Council that would guarantee special rights to ex-offenders seeking employment. Noting that several member companies already hire ex-offenders, the letter asks that DC find a solution that engages the DC Department of Employment Services. Read letter

Welcome to the Board of Trade’s Newest Staff Members. Today, Theresa Brown, began her position as Director of Events and Member Involvement. A native of Metuchen, NJ, Theresa was with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for the past six years, most recently as Director of Chairman's Programs. She will be responsible for the Board of Trade’s signature events, and for reinvigorating member involvement opportunities by convening task forces and issue forums. Also, Rachel Silberman has joined us as Program Manager, The Potomac Conference. A native of Arlington VA, she recently completed her Masters degree in public policy from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to graduate school Rachel taught in South Texas for Teach For America.
