Health Care Workforce Study Reveals Shortages, Inefficiencies that Increase Costs and Impact Quality of Care.

A first-ever, region-wide study of workforce supply and demand in 23 health care professions documents significant health care workforce shortages. Released last week by the Board of Trade's Health Care Task Force, the study, entitled "Who Cares? Examining Greater Washington's Health Care Workforce," recommends the region's public, private and nonprofit sector partners initiate a new effort to ensure an adequate supply of well-qualified health care workers. Info Keeping Amtrak on Track: Gunn Makes Case for Reform, Federal Funding.

At a recent Transportation and Environment Committee meeting, Amtrak President and CEO David Gunn outlined reforms necessary to improve service while repairing the system's aging Northeast rail corridor. Last month, Amtrak's Board of Directors presented its new Strategic Reform Initiative to Congress, and called for the federal government to fully fund overdue repairs to railcars, bridges and tracks along the DC to Boston corridor. More info
