Jim Dinegar to Join Staff as President and CEO on July 10. The Board of Trade’s new leader, Jim Dinegar, who has served as COO of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), will begin his new job on July 10. A resident of Arlington and a graduate of Catholic University, Dinegar has a track record of leadership and success. During his tenure at AIA, Dinegar oversaw the growth of annual revenues by over $20 million – from $34 million in 1999 to over $56 million for 2006. Read more
2006 Regional Report, Available Tomorrow, Highlights Region’s Transformation. The Greater Washington Initiative’s signature publication, the Regional Report, to be released tomorrow, summarizes the region’s transformation since 1990, and documents booming job growth. Fueled by record federal spending, Greater Washington added 270,800 jobs between 2000 and 2005, outpacing Miami - its nearest competitor - by nearly 62,000 jobs. Meet DC and MD Candidates and VA Del. Moran at June Forums. In preparation for fall elections, the Board of Trade has organized a lunchtime forum in Bethesda on June 14 with Maryland gubernatorial candidates Doug Duncan and Martin O’Malley, and a June 15 afternoon forum in DC for DC Mayoral candidates. Take these opportunities to ask questions of the candidates! In Virginia, Board of Trade members are invited to meet Brian Moran, a VA Delegate representing Alexandria and Southeastern Fairfax, at a Policy Series event on June 22 at Capital One.
ICC Decision is Win for Region. As announced May 30 by MD Gov. Robert Ehrlich, the InterCounty Connector received final approval – the “Record of Decision” – from the Federal Highway Administration. This “green light“ for the project, which has been a long-term priority of the Board of Trade, allows construction to begin, pending final design and right of way acquisition. Questions? Read more
Discovering High Blood Pressure at Work: 1,000+ Employees Screened. The first-ever Wellness Works Blood Pressure Screening Week, held May 22-26, exceeded project goals set by the Board of Trade’s Health Care Task Force, with trained volunteers screening more than 1,000 employees at 25 area office buildings. Of those screened, 140 employees were referred to their doctors for hypertension. The DC Chamber of Commerce is seeking participation from businesses in the DC Summer Youth Employment Program, which pairs DC firms with young District residents for a six-week internship. Participating firms are asked to contribute a $1250 stipend for each intern, who will work for 30 hours per week.
