VA Transportation Funding: Board of Trade’s Top Priority Moving Ahead! Breaking years of legislative gridlock, Virginia’s General Assembly gave final approval last week to a transportation funding package that the Board of Trade had championed to address Northern Virginia’s congested transportation system. The package includes $500 million annually in new transportation funds for Northern Virginia, with $50 million per year dedicated for Metro. Patricia McGuire Named 2007 Leader of the Years. The Board of Trade will present its 2007 Leader of the Years award to Patricia McGuire (left), president of Trinity (Washington) University, at a Recognition Dinner on May 15. The annual award recognizes "extraordinary service by an individual to the business and community interests of Greater Washington." McGuire, a Board of Trade director, is active with many area organizations, including the Washington Hospital Center, Goodwill of Greater Washington and the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital. MD Legislative Session Wraps Up with Progress on ICC and More to Come. On Monday, the Maryland General Assembly completed its 90-day session, deferring key issues, including addressing the state’s structural deficit, until next year. The Board of Trade led efforts urging legislators to fund transportation projects, but action is not expected until next session. On the plus side, the InterCounty Connector was advanced, with the first design-build contract approved. The Board of Trade also weighed in on bills ranging from health care and education funding, to affordable housing and life sciences. Read legislative summary Questions?
