GWI Events to Continue Dialogue on Strengths and Challenges of Region's Workforce. The region has the nation’s highest concentration of “knowledge workers” -- people who use, analyze and develop ideas and information daily in their jobs -- according to a new study by the Greater Washington Initiative. The study, titled Human Capital: Greater Washington’s Knowledge Workers, analyzes more than 1.1 million employees in the region, compares our region to other major metro areas, and includes projections of workforce needs. At a series of breakfast events in April, members are invited to discuss the study’s implications with expert panelists. Read Washington Post article Download the study Register for events

Virginia Legislature to Vote on Transportation Package on April 4. On Monday, VA Gov. Tim Kaine released his long awaited amendments to the transportation funding bill, which the Board of Trade has been instrumental in getting passed by the VA General Assembly this year. The Governor’s changes to the bill keep with the Board of Trade’s views and represent a true compromise. The bill, which includes $50 million in Metro funding, now goes back to the General Assembly for final consideration on April 4. Virginia members are urged to call your Senator and Delegate to express support for getting a transportation funding bill done this year. For details on contacting legislators, visit www.nvta.org. Board of Trade, MD Business Groups Weigh in on MD Gas Tax. In testimony offered earlier this month, Board of Trade President Jim Dinegar expressed support of legislation raising the state's gas tax, to provide funding for Maryland's share of the Metro funding bill and other transportation priorities. At the invitation of MD Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, a panel of leading business groups testified on the issue - including the Board of Trade, the Greater Baltimore Committee and the MD Chamber of Commerce.
