VA Legislative Alert: Contact Your Legislators on Transportation Funding Today! Members are requested to contact VA delegates and senators with a simple message: “Pass a Transportation Funding Bill Now!" With only 24 days left in this year’s legislative session, it’s imperative that private sector execs urge legislative leaders and the Governor to reach consensus this year on transportation funding, with a minimum of $400 million per year allocated to Northern Virginia, including $50 million annually in dedicated funding for Metro. U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer Supports Regional Priorities. Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD), the newly appointed House Majority Leader, expressed strong support of federal legislation for Metro funding at a Jan. 26 meeting with Board of Trade members. Hoyer also voiced support for DC voting rights and the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative. Questions?

Board of Trade to Review Mayor Fenty’s Education Proposal.  DC Mayor Adrian Fenty’s education proposal involves a sweeping reform of management, governance and operations. Recognizing that the situation is critical to the region and that accountability and measurements must be encouraged, the Board of Trade, along with the DC Chamber of Commerce and the Federal City Council, will have the opportunity to testify on the proposal before the DC Council on Feb. 20.
