Regional Policy Forum
The Greater Washington Board of Trade’s Regional Policy Forums are a new series held quarterly for members to receive access to policy decision makers in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.  These forums review Greater Washington’s most pressing issues with prominent members of the business community and elected officials.

Regional Policy Forum: Coordinating Regional Transportation Needs - Feb. 29
On February 29, the Greater Washington Board of Trade convened the region’s top transportation officials at its first Regional Policy Forum.  Virginia Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer, Maryland Secretary of Transportation John Porcari, Director of the District Department of Transportation Emeka Moneme and General Manager of Metro John Catoe addressed the region's critical transportation needs. Bruce DePuyt, host of NewsChannel 8’s NewsTalk, moderated the discussion.

The panelists stressed the region’s opportunity to improve mobility through collaboration.  Secretary Homer noted the keys to link transportation and land use planning, while Director Moneme highlighted the need for safety and sustainability.  Secretary Porcari advocated for the necessary balance of transit options and the benefit of transit oriented development.  Metro General Manager Catoe stressed that he is taking a proactive approach to improving customer safety and decreasing service delays.  Other topics included Metro dedicated funding, the Dulles rail project, emergency preparedness and HOT lanes.
