WASHINGTON, March 23, 2015

WASHINGTON, March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Secor Group, a global moving, storage and logistics company, today announced its 125th anniversary. Founded in 1890 as part of American Security and Trust, the company is one of the oldest continually operating businesses in Washington, D.C.

"Secor Group's D.C. roots have provided many opportunities, like working with distinctive clients throughout the years; having served many of our nation's top diplomats, including several presidents, most recently Mr. Obama," said Charles Lawrence, chief executive officer, Secor Group. "From moving politicians and foreign dignitaries, major corporations and government entities, to moving families down the block, we have been part of the greater D.C. community since our early beginnings, so much so that our original office building was once on the back of the $10 bill."

Expanding its offerings far beyond its initial moving and storage capabilities, Secor Group continues to build upon the history and success from the last 125 years—now, the company offers services ranging from corporate moves to private moving and storage, as well as relocation services, logistics support both domestically and abroad, with the resources, infrastructure and network to move families down the street or corporate employees around the world.

In 1890, the company was the first to commercialize fireproof warehouses in the United States, and the company debuted electric street trucks to deliver goods throughout Washington as early as 1919, after starting out using only horse and buggy. In 1927, the company invented the first steel containers for moving goods overseas. Immediately following 9/11, the Secor Group logistics team responded quickly and deployed supplies for U.S. troops stationed abroad. The Secor Group continued to innovate throughout the years, including opening the first 20-foot steel container warehouse in the country in 2002 and reducing its environmental footprint by purchasing hybrid vehicles beginning in 2004.

The Secor Group served as a founding member of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and today the company is recognized as a global thought leader for its early adoption of technology and exceptional service practices, and the company has won numerous awards from organizations including United Van Lines, the American Moving and Storage Association, and the Virginia Truck Association.

Company celebrations will include an internal event and recognitions of notable clients, employees and company milestones throughout the 125 years of Secor Group. To learn more about Secor Group's 125-year history, visit
